Track Name: ...and Passengers
[Instrumental]
Track Name: You've Changed
When you were the queen of my high school dreams
I would see you bathed in bright light, dressed in all white.
And I would idolize the way you walked
and try to talk the way you talked--
when you were the queen of my high school dreams.
But I don't recognize you with that pixie hair cut.

"Oh, you've changed."

I don't know who Simone de Beauvoir is
and I don't want to have to read The Mandarins just to talk to you.
And we both know that you don't like Bob Marley
so why do you wear his t-shirt?
and I never thought I'd see the day
when you'd diss department stores,
now you're thrift shop through and through.

"Oh, you've changed."
But my heart, oh my heart, it remains the same.

And I don't mind telling you that the highlight of my week was talking to you in the grocery store check out line.
I would practice what I would say to you all week in front of the mirror for when you bagged our groceries.
I was not expecting how awkward it would be to talk to you when you came home from school.

"Oh, you've changed."
But my heart, oh my heart, it remains the same.
Track Name: Valentine Bonds
You sit by yourself at lunch
and say, "Hi" to the kids you know who pass by.
They say you've alone a long while
but I can still make you smile.

The men you know who are so cold-hearted,
they look at you and their lips are unparted.
They whisper in each other's ears
and they shake their heads at you.

At home you've got one missed message.
Your mom thinks you've missed your primary directive.
you're an adjunct in a funk
buy girl, you still got a lot of pluck.

And if I were just ten years older
and yes, maybe a great deal bolder,
I would take you in my arms
and keep you safe from harm.
Track Name: Like Vultures
I don't know just where you've gone
and I guess that's part of the point.
And I suppose it's hard to find some piece of mind
when the blood rains down from the sky.

"I don't know what you saw in them,
but your friends, oh they fly around like vultures."

And sometimes it's almost like you're dead.
If you watch the tape, you can see our love float away.
Oh, I tried to introduce you to all the saddest people
just to see if you could feel the same way I do.

"I don't know what you saw in them,
but your friends, oh they fly around like vultures."
Track Name: Dream Age Love
When you come home
and get on the telephone
and curl into a ball
oh, I know I'm gonna stay up late.

"'But it's nice to be nice."
Track Name: Ready to Die Pts. 2 & 3
I was born in the back of a cab,
my life's been jaundiced ever since.

(Shortly after, I was hospitalized for chronic awesome.)

I want to take you out
to throw rocks at the house of our friends.

I want to take you out
to give chocolate to our enemies.

I want to see you in the moonlight,
smiling by our private lake.

I want to take you out.
"I was ready to die for you."
Track Name: Anhedonia
You're lookin' for your dad
in every man this side of the Mississippi.
And you see him now in the new kid at school
with his Aviators.
And when we pass him in the hall,
you let go of my hand.

"Everything/Nothing always changes/stays the same."
Track Name: The Storm
I remember long afternoons
wrapped in your comforter
watching cartoons.
And you'd look at me.
And you'd smile wide.
My hair was tossed about
and yours was pony-tailed.

But you lost interest,
joined a soccer team.
And I just sat in my room
and I waited for you.
I grew spiteful,
yelled at my telephone.
And I boarded up my windows,
I was waiting for the storm.
Track Name: Escape From the Planet Of...
It's summer time
but I don't feel any better.
I know my crimes
but what is this passion?
I gave my son,

escape from the planet of...
Track Name: Summer Bummer
If your mother isn't home,
maybe I could drop by.
I've been driving around your house for hours
and I just see your smile.

"Put your head on my shoulder,
I don't want to talk tonight."

And sometimes I still think about you.
And sometimes I forget to forget about you.
We both know I'm just playing this hand you dealt me.
At least until you open your door.

"Put your head on my shoulder,
I don't want to talk tonight."

And I don't want to pour over your reasons.
Oh, we could throw excuses at the wall all night.
I'm not looking for any sort of confrontation
and I think we both need at least a little comfort.

"Put your head on my shoulder,
I don't want to talk tonight."
Track Name: Alone & Dethroned
Take me out, all alone
even though I've hardly ever left my home.
Take me out,
you just seem so familiar
you've been runnin' 'round my head
and I'm feeling like Judge Dredd all over again

My heart's been plated in chrome,
Sly & the Family Stone,
and I know that I will be dethroned.
Track Name: "...everytime..."
Every time I look at you
I feel just like I've won a trip to a deserted island
because I lose myself in your eyes.
It's true

Every time I talk to you
I feel just like I've gone back to school
'cause I can't pay attention to what you're saying
because I'm so enthralled in[sic] the way you look at me.

It seems like you just too pretty
to carry on a conversation with me
and have me know what you are saying.
And I guess some people would call this love,
I just call it distracting

because I really do want to know where that party is this weekend.
Track Name: My Car
My car is parked so far away
I can't see it from your window.
Turn on the radio, I don't mind.
"In a white sports coat and a pink carnation..."

I am going to the prom.
I don't car what you say.

My car is parked so far away
I can't see it from your window.
The tulips on your table need a drink.
In a white sports coat and a pink carnation,

I am going to the prom.
I don't car what you say.
Track Name: Pop Heart
When I was younger
I would stay in my room all day
listening to records
and learning how to pray.
And I'd go to dinner
but then I'd go right back in

'Cause no one's gonna take away my Pop heart.

When I started writing,
I would bang on the piano
until my fingers hurt
and my wrists were hurt
and I couldn't sing anymore.
I kept up and now I've got a little time in

and no one's gonna take away my Pop heart.
